1 Step in a Dream: Meet Devin Nakasone & Sharlene Aoki
We asked two very creative team members to share a little about themselves. Not only are they ultra-talented in the music and entertainment industry but in personal development and in building teams. If you want to be inspired to be your best and are also looking for a fun way to earn money while helping others, meet Devin and Sharlene. In their own words they shared….
“We are Devin Nakasone and Sharlene Aoki, and we started 1 Step in a Dream in 2012.

Since then, we have always had a vision to help people transform themselves to truly live the life of their dreams. We believe that anyone and everyone can do it, and with our experience, we are life transformation coaches who serve as guides on the personal journeys of each person on our team.
We are also entertainers and humanitarians and spent years as leaders in various network marketing companies, particularly those in the health and wellness field. We integrate our different passions into our work and infuse it with a whole lot of fun. But we are serious about helping others achieve their health and wealth goals.
About Devin:
Devin Nakasone was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is a childhood leukemia survivor. He was diagnosed at the age of 11, and through his almost four years of chemotherapy, he not only underwent major physical challenges, but also mental and emotional challenges as well. Being the only child of loving parents, his survival became his parents’ only focus. Being so intent on keeping him alive physically, they did not realize that he was also suffering emotionally. During this time, his best friend, the one he cried with, sang to, told his innermost feelings to, was a rubber duck. 27 years later he co-founded Prayers on Wings to help children in crisis so that they would not have to go through what he had to.
In his last month of chemotherapy, Devin became addicted to crystal methamphetamine. For the next 10 years he battled this addiction, finally recovering in 1999. He uses both his experiences of drugs and cancer to tackle challenges facing many teens and young adults. He hopes to inspire others by sharing what he has learned, and as he states “you cannot inspire others without surviving some kind of crisis and sharing it.”
About Sharlene:
Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Sharlene Aoki left home at the age of 17, wanting to be independent, and have the freedom to pursue her dreams. Dreams turned to disillusion as reality set in, and she even went through a period of being homeless. At this low point, Sharlene was led to seek out coaching and this started her interest in personal development.
After dealing with a serious illness in 1997, she became interested in natural and holistic health and wellness. Her passion for personal development and health and wellness led her to expand her education in life coaching. In 2009, she enrolled in the International Coach Academy’s Certified Professional Coach program and is certified to coach using Marcia Weider’s proven 10-step Dream Coach process. Skills she honed in the music business and learned through her life experiences, such as creative problem solving and the ability to bring order out of chaos, are especially beneficial to clients who are in transition, are having challenges in manifesting their dreams, or that lack purpose in their lives. In 2011, she met Devin Nakasone, and after discussing their similar vision and goals, they started Prayers on Wings and in 2012 started 1 Step in a Dream, LLC”
Since 2014 Devin and Sharlene

I googled 1stepinadream.com when first getting to know Devin and Sharlene and then had the pleasure of being on a Leadership earned Caribbean Cruise in 2017 and seeing them in action as performers. At that time I didn’t know how talented they are, only that Devin and Bruno Mars played together in the same band. We sure had a treat seeing them entertain spontaneously on stage.
I also learned that they are both humanitarians, and spent years in the fitness and wellness industry. They integrate these passions into their process and also infuse it with a whole lot of fun. After living on steroids for years my bones were very brittle. I am not exactly graceful either, I dropped a pan from a pan rack way up high in the kitchen. It came crashing down on my foot. I never really paid much attention to it until it began to hurt like crazy! Quick Care was open, and I went in to have my foot checked. I was excited when he said it wasn’t broke. He told me to put asper cream on it and use a heating pad. (THIS PICTURE to the left is ME back in 2008. My body was bloated from drugs and as a result I was VERY overweight.)
and we will cut you open and get it. Still I had no idea what I was looking at. I was home for about an hour when the doctor called, he told me to go to the drug store and buy this prep, do it and be at the hospital Monday morning at 5 am as we are operating at 7am. REALLY?????
This is when I heard the words that no one wants to ever hear. You have Cancer! It is a rare form, you will be sick of me by the time this is over. I looked at him and said “
About 6 weeks after my surgery I was struggling with being the middle man for all I ate. Food went right on out! I called The Oncologist and asked what I needed to do to alleviate these symptoms. He had me come in and do blood work which takes a week to get back! I was scheduled to see him after the week, and when I showed up, he showed me that my proteins had gone way up. I needed to begin with these shots of Sandostatin to keep the Cancer at bay. I started on these shots and have been on them for 9 plus years.
Coliese and Travis put me on Amazon gold (it was a different name then) and I started taking it. We have grand kids who go to school and daycare. A hanging bag. I took a hanging bag out of my closet at home designed for shoes – which was perfect, but there are larger sizes available. It worked great for organizing under clothes, t-shirts, bathing suits, shorts, pants, hats, jewelry bag etc. Not only did I know where everything was at all times, they stayed in place and it took up VERY little space.
The third item worth mentioning was a pair (or two) of ear plugs! Yes ear plugs! In the event you have noisy neighbors (we did, we had families with young children on either side of our cabin) They drown out noises- including snoring. In fact, a friend on the ship complained of getting little sleep the night before and she shared the LOUD SNORING of her sister that she recorded on her cell phone. Luckily I had an additional pair on hand and she went on to enjoy her vacation more with restful sleep.

Please don’t go down the slippery slide of comparing your success to other people. Someone else may put more hours into this than you can. Someone else may have uncovered a “runner” faster than you. Stay dedicated and you will get a “runner” too. Someone else may/may not have young children at home. Someone else may/may not work a full time job, or take care of elderly parents, or………you get the picture. Don’t run hot then cold, then hot, then cold. This is a business and it is going to have its ups and its downs. Watch training videos as much as possible. You can listen/watch them while getting dressed in the mornings or on break at work or riding in the car.
