Tricks to STOP SUGAR CRAVINGS…

Sugar. It’s everywhere. Of course, we can spot the obvious places– like ice cream and cookies, soft drinks and candy bars. But sugar also hides in less obvious places.

Did you realize that store-bought spaghetti sauce almost always contains sugar? How about crackers, bread, and barbecue sauce? Even your breakfast sausage likely contains a good amount of the sweet stuff that leaves you wanting more.

Today I was talking to a group of women, several of them who have recently stopped drinking alcohol (sugar!) They were asking me how they can handle their Sugar cravings. Alcohol has a HUGE sugar content and not drinking has left a void in their lives.

I have some solutions of what I and others have found to be useful- so let me share here. I will reference a great article below. The suggestions in the article are like what I have also found to work for me and many of my clients and customers.

In the article they suggest drinking a Green Smoothie Every Day. What I have found to be easier and more affordable is using a product called GREEN POWER (Green Power- you can add to your shake, smoothie or drink alone with water or juice.) It tastes great, is not bitter like many green drinks and I simply ADD the powder to my morning protein shake.) Each pack of Green Power has 50 Superfoods! (individual packs for ease without having to measure.) www.DaveandJoy.com (click on Power Greens) We also offer a 10% discount using that link.

Trick #1: Try Drinking A Green Smoothie Every Day

Why does drinking a green smoothie a day help kick the sugar habit? Here’s why: It’s a healthier choice. Your body needs the phytochemicals in leafy greens to function properly—they are antioxidant and antibacterial, they can protect your cells and prevent the growth of cancer.

PLUS, they stimulate hormone production. I’d say phytochemicals are important— so when your body gets a taste, it wants more! Once you replace the empty calories with the nutrient-packed ones, and you begin to crave the greens, your taste for the sugary stuff will start to fade away naturally. Your body starts craving the good stuff. You’ll soon find that you WANT a green smoothie.

Like I mentioned, you can MAKE YOUR OWN Green smoothie by adding fistfuls of leafy greens, fruits, chia seeds ETC. or simply open the pack of Super Greens and add it to your smoothie.

Trick #2: Eat Huge Salads

Whatever you’re eating for a main course, eat it with a huge salad full of leafy greens and veggies, nuts, seeds, avocado, and maybe even some green apple.

Top it off with a simple squirt of lemon and pepper, or drizzle with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Trick #3: Get Protein with Every Meal

Eating healthy proteins with your meal helps balance your blood sugar, so you don’t get the dips and spikes that cause sugar cravings. Plus, healthy protein helps keep you feeling fuller longer—making that bag of M & M’s – or that cocktail, easier to resist later in the day.

MY CHOICE: Plant-based organic and vegan protein-based shakes. I alter between vanilla and chocolate. Both are delicious and offer a BASE for any smoothie or shake.

Available at www.DaveandJoy.com (Save 10% on all products) Plant based protein is easier to digest as well.

Trick #4: Sleep More (Or At Least Better)

We live in a nation of sleep-deprived zombies. Is it such a coincidence that we are also chronically overweight? No, it is not.

When you don’t get enough sleep, the hormones that regulate your appetite are suppressed, which means your body has a hard time reading hunger signals. Here are some tips that many agree on. One thing I have found that absolutely makes a difference in getting a great night sleep is dropping the booze.

Make time or make your sleep better. Or both. You can do really well on 7 hours if they’re 7 hours of deep sleep. Try these tricks to reset your circadian rhythm, get more z’s, and stop the sugar from taking over:

  • Eat your biggest meal after dark to kick into “rest and digest mode.”
  • Refrain from exercise for a few hours before bedtime.
  • Go to bed at the same time every night.
  • Use light-blocking shades on your bedroom windows or use an eye mask to achieve optimal darkness.
  • Use ear plugs to block out sound (if you don’t have small children you need to listen for).
  • Try to get sunlight early in the day to reset your circadian rhythm.
  • Drink chamomile or Kava tea after sundown.
  • Avoid alcohol. It prevents you from reaching deep restorative sleep.
  • This is a hard one, but if you can also avoid artificial light after sundown, that helps a lot. Especially the glowing screen of your TV, phone, tablet, and computer! I highlight the STOP the alcohol all together for optimum sleep as many of the women I have been talking to said this has made a huge difference for them.

Want the IDEAL way to stop your cravings and still have energy and eat healthy? No shopping or chopping necessary.

Morning: Mix a TRIM MAX in the morning with 12-16 ounces of water. Shake and drink. This is a metabolism booster that tastes like grape Kool-Aid, it gives you energy and focus, helps with suppressing the appetite & CRAVINGS and helps with healthy weight loss. (fat) (Make sure it is the MAX formula for best results.)

Breakfast: No matter the time of day, Breakfast literally means Break-the-fast. It is the FIRST meal of the day that you eat. Those who do intermittent fasting or are on a Keto program can use all these products as they are Keto friendly.

Mix a plant base protein in a blender (or shaker bottle). I alternate between Vanilla and Chocolate. I mix mine with 8-10 ounces of unsweetened almond milk but many people use other forms of milk or even water. I ADD the Green Power to my shake as well as Amazon Superfruits. Occasionally I’ll add a Tablespoon of nuts or a couple chunks of frozen fruit or even a Tablespoon of ripe avocado to make it THICK. However, it is delicious on its own. (The visual here is a variety of Kiiks available to add to your protein base shake.) Amazon Superfruits is the “purple A.S” in the photo image.

Kids love the smoothie too….so it makes an IDEAL family breakfast and can be prepared in less than 1 minute. You heard me….1 minute or less. Once again, MY kind of meal that doesn’t require shopping or chopping.

Voila…

Because I begin my day feeding my body the nutrients it needs, I no longer have sugar or carb cravings and have an abundance of energy. If you are interested or have questions feel free to call us at 802-846-7530 and we’ll help you determine what the BEST products are for your goals.

Recipe for the BEST Keto Fat Bombs Ever!

I was introduced to the KETO lifestyle several years ago and it blew my mind as it was 360 degrees different than what was educated on my entire life.

I grew up in the age of ‘fat phobia’ and was told that fat made you fat. Obviously there is great education on this subject that tells us it is the KIND of fat that makes a difference and actually that FAT is good for you. Thus, the Keto Diet Movement.

Several years ago a friend shared the BEST FAT BOMB recipe with me and today, I have fine-tuned it to make it even better- healthier and to include an anti-oxidant that will kick the butt of any other ‘chocolate’ on the market.

Ready? Here is the recipe from our friend April (and it’s a perfect time of the year to share.) The only thing I have added and upgraded on is the type of CHOCOLATE used in the original recipe. I now use BRU and highly suggest you do too.

Put this ‘mixture’ into decorative shaped tins or holiday ‘small muffin tin’ papers and you’ll SHOCK and excite everyone who tastes them. By the way, for added nutrition and a great healthy fat boost, you can even add a FAT BOMB to your morning coffee.

Here goes:

Peanut Butter Cup Fat Bombs
1/4 cup coconut butter, (or unsalted grass fed butter)
1/2 cup coconut oil,
1/2 cup organic creamy peanut butter or other nut butter
1/8 cup MCT oil
2 TBSP organic Bru (www.DaveandJoy.com) *
1/4 cup raw coconut flakes,
1-2 droppers of alcohol free stevia,
pink Himalayan sea salt.

If you do not have BRU you can also use a dark chocolate (unsweetened) powder or dark Cacao powder.

Melt a bit of coconut oil so it will mix well. You have to taste as you go to adjust as necessary.
Mini cupcake papers, we put a little dot of peanut butter (or nut butter) in each paper then topped with fat bomb mixture. Sprinkle a bit of the salt on top and refrigerate.

I have altered this original recipe when I don’t have coconut on hand and it is still healthy and delicious AND also even when I didn’t have nut butter. You can even alter the recipe by adding a drop or two of peppermint essential oil and have a real peppermint patty treat.

Enjoy and if you have questions email us at info@DaveandJoy.com or call 802-846-7530. P.S. Even my fat-phobic parents who were born in the 1930s and still believe fat is ‘bad’ LOVE these fat bombs. I just tell them that this is a healthy ‘chocolate snack’.

Most ingredients are available at your grocery or health food store….and you can certainly improvise. As for what we use, the BRU is only available through Tavala, www.DaveandJoy.com. A full bag that is organic cacao and will last a long time is only $29.99.

I’d love to know how your recipe turns out. For me, when I have any cravings I reach for a FAT BOMB as it helps satisfy any craving, gives me great nutrition and a healthy high anti0xidant snack. By the way did you know that FAT keeps you more satisfied than carbohydrates?

Share your pictures of your FAT BOMB creations. I’m sure they will look better than mine do….but heck, I am here for the nutrition!
