First let’s see the benefits of eating breakfast, as stated below. Then we’ll offer a new ‘twist’ on the subject and share a solution that VIIVA is addressing on this very subject matter.
Chances are you’ve heard many times in your life that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And over the years, there have been countless studies attempting to prove–and even disprove–this advice, and to determine the consequences if you miss out on this meal.
So, what is the truth? Is breakfast really that important? In short (no surprise), yes it is. Should you skip breakfast? Probably not, unless (as mentioned above, you are doing intermittent fasting. In which case, simply enjoy your breakfast shake, at a later time.)
Breakfast is:
1. Good for Your Overall Health
There have been numerous studies over the years that have shown that eating breakfast frequently is beneficial for an individual’s health in several different ways. For example, Harvard conducted a 16-year study of 26,902 American men aged 45 to 82 and found that those “who skipped breakfast had a 27 percent higher risk of CHD compared with men who did not.” In other words, these men were susceptible to heart attacks because of coronary heart disease associated with bad sugar levels.
Other research has found that eating breakfast can decrease the risk of type 2 diabetes in women and reduces obesity because it limits mid-morning snacking. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you can eat an unhealthy fried dish every morning; it means that eating a well-balanced breakfast is just plain good for your health. Heck, forget well-balanced–just toss down a dish of cereal….. (NO don’t do that! Enjoy a healthy protein shake with customized nutrients instead!)
2. Improves Your Memory
Another area of research has focused on the relationship between breakfast and short-term memory. One study released in the Journal of Adolescent Health of 319 adolescents (aged 13-20 years) found that “high energy intake from breakfast had a beneficial effect on immediate recall in short-term memory evaluated on the whole sample.” (YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE THE CUSTOMIZED BREAKFAST OPTIONS BEING OFFERED BY VIIVA! There was also a study released in the Journal of Physiology and Behavior that discovered that eating breakfast, such as oatmeal, improved the spatial and short-term memories of elementary school children.
While these studies looked at children and teenagers respectively, it’s believed that eating breakfast can improve short-term memory in adults as well.
3. Boosts Energy
According to a 1999 study published in the International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition, consuming a breakfast high in fiber and low in carbohydrates will make you feel less tired during the day.
When your breakfast consists of items like whole-grain breads and cereals–which should provide at least four grams of fiber per serving–you’re fueling your body for the entire morning. If you are a high caffeine user, consider getting a protein into your body at breakfast, so that your caffeine has something to bind with for maximum energy. (Make sure you avoid fast food cereals that are full of empty calories and sugar!)
4. Improves Your Mood
A 1999 study in the Journal of Physiology and Behavior of 144 volunteers found that those who had breakfast cereal prior to the test sessions arrived in a better mood and were even calmer following the sessions than those who did not. In short, having these vital nutrients every morning can help make you more positive. (New studies show that breakfasts with a protein base (whey or plant based protein powder for example) are actually healthier for you! A quick and ideal solution would be a protein base shake with healthy carbs and the ability to customize to the person’s nutritional needs. Mom’s need a different set of nutrients than children, than athletes, than seniors, etc.)
No matter what age you are, eating breakfast every morning will make you feel less restless and irritable.
5. Consumes More Nutrients
Since most of us are on the go most of the time, it can become extremely difficult to eat a well-balanced meal. However, if you have the time every morning to eat breakfast, you are probably making sure that you also have the chance to consume important nutrients. According to research published in the journal Nutrition Research and Practice, those who eat breakfast daily are consuming beneficial nutrients like calcium and fiber.

Whether you’re dieting or not, breakfast is a great way to help burn those unwanted calories. By consuming smaller meals throughout the day, you’re increasing your body’s metabolism. In fact, research conducted by Harvard of 17,000 men discovered “that those who frequently have breakfast consistently weighed less than those who rarely or never ate breakfast ” (This is being debated by new science and those in favor of a Keto lifestyle or ‘diet’ suggests that a healthy protein based ‘shake’ would actually be more useful to the body and maintaining health as well as your ideal weight, than the ‘average cereal’ being consumed today.)
7. Improves Concentration
This shouldn’t come as a surprise since breakfast has already been found to improve energy and short-term memory. Research has discovered that eating breakfast also boosts concentration. In a 2008 issue of Indian Pediatrics, it was found that “middle-school students who ate breakfast every day had better attention, concentration, memory, and school achievement than those who consumed breakfast only sometimes or never did.” During sleep, the main source of the brain’s energy, glucose, decreases, hence the help from breakfast.
Recent research explains that eating a healthy breakfast–such as eggs, oatmeal, yogurt, and fruit–keeps “blood sugar levels steady and allows optimal cognitive function throughout the day.” (Once again for a quick breakfast, a new solution for people of all ages, is a protein based shake!)
It does take a little forethought and you may have to plan three extra minutes in the morning, but if you want to improve your health, memory, mood, concentration, and energy level, start eating a healthy (or mostly healthy) breakfast every morning.

Take Charge of Your Metabolism- Can TRIM Help?
While researching a way to BOOST the metabolism and taking charge of your health and metabolism I stumbled upon many different thoughts on Boosting the Metabolism and thought I’d also share what I discovered back in December 2016. It’s called TRIM.
Do you ever wonder how your friend can eat whatever she wants and not gain a pound, while you seem to gain weight by simply looking at food? The answer is in your metabolism—the way your body burns up all the calories from food.
Some people have a fast metabolism which helps keep weight off, and others have a slow metabolism, putting on weight very quickly. The good news is metabolic rate can be altered, and even sped up. A product called TRIM helps you take charge of your metabolism, so you too can indulge without the bulge!
What is TRIM?
TRIM is a thermogenic product that comes in both drink and capsule form. It helps boost the metabolism, gives you more energy and focus, aids in suppressing the appetite and cravings…the end result is weight (fat) loss.
What is Metabolism?
Metabolism is the rate at which your body’s internal engine operates as it performs its bodily functions. The largest component of your metabolism, approximately 70%, is your basal metabolic rate (BMR), which is how many calories you burn ‘at rest’. In other words, it is the energy used by your body to perform basic functions, such as breathing, keeping the heart beating and maintaining body temperature. As you age, your BMR decreases.
Basal metabolic rates differ from person to person due to:
Genetics: A slow metabolism (you burn calories more slowly) or fast metabolism (you burn calories faster) can be inherited.
Amount of lean muscle: Muscle burns calories faster than fat. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn, even at rest. (This is why I highly recommend everyone- yes WOMEN of all ages, do weight resistant training or exercises….to build valuable lean muscle!)
Sex differences: Males generally have a 10 to 15% faster BMR than females because the male body has a larger percentage of lean muscle tissue.
Age: Younger people have faster metabolisms due to increased activity of cells.
Other components of your metabolism include physical activity, which accounts for about 20% of calories burned, and dietary thermogenesis, which is the number of calories required for digesting and processing the food you eat. This accounts for the remaining 10% of energy needs.

How Does This Affect My Weight?
Simply put, your metabolism affects weight management because it determines how many calories you need per day. If you have a high BMR (fast metabolism) it takes a lot of calories for your body to function; eating calorie-laden foods may not pack on the pounds for you. On the other hand, if you have a low BMR (slow metabolism), your body needs fewer calories to function. Unfortunately, for your sluggish metabolism, eating calorie-laden foods will result in weight gain.
How Can I Jump Start my Body’s Metabolic Engine?
Follow these tips to naturally boost your metabolism:
Eat Breakfast. Breakfast is truly the most important meal of the day, especially for you weight loss seekers. Research shows that those who eat breakfast lose more weight than those who skip breakfast. Your metabolism slows down while you sleep and it doesn’t speed back up until you eat again. If you don’t eat until lunchtime, your body won’t burn as many calories as it could during the morning period. Kick start your day with a balanced breakfast. Eat smaller meals throughout the day. Eating five or six smaller meals rather than three large meals helps to keep your metabolism revved up! It also helps to fill you up over the course of the day, making a binge session less likely.
Don’t starve yourself. Fasting, cutting calories and skipping meals will all help put weight ON not OFF. Your body needs a certain number of calories to function. If you don’t meet this need, your body will switch into survival mode, slow down the metabolism and promote the storage of energy (calories) in the form of fat to protect itself from starvation.
Side note here: When consuming the TRIM you will not want to eat as much food or perhaps not want to eat at all….still, you must remember to eat as the KEEP your metabolism that you sped up with TRIM, in high gear. Not eating enough will be like having one foot on the GAS (Trim) and the other on the BRAKE. (consuming too few calories.)
Exercise. Both cardiovascular exercise and weight training help to improve metabolic rate and keep weight off. Cardiovascular exercise, such as walking, running, biking, swimming and aerobics, allows your body to burn a lot of calories at one time. Weight training will increase muscle mass, which burns more calories than body fat. Weight training also puts the metabolism into overdrive, so your burn calories for up to two hours after the workout.
Drink TRIM which has many ingredients including Green Tea extract. Research by the University of Geneva shows that green tea appears to increase metabolic rate and speed up fat oxidation. Compounds in green tea, catechin polyphenols, appear to speed up the rate at which calories are burned and therefore increase overall energy expenditure leading to weight loss!
Drink water. Not drinking enough water can slow down your metabolism. Be sure to drink at least six to eight glasses of water per day or 1/2 ounce for each pound of body weight. Adding a lemon slice to water increases the alkalinity and will also aid in flushing fat.
Energy-dense carbohydrates, such as whole grains, beans, vegetables and fruits that contain fiber to help regulate your metabolism by having less impact on insulin levels.
High quality protein, such as fish, poultry, lean meats, soy, tofu and low fat dairy products to help build metabolism-boosting muscle mass. Essential fats for good health such as olive oil, avocado and nuts.

Why am I Thirsty and feel dehydrated while using the TRIM?
Here is a question that comes up on occasion from people using the TRIM. So what do we do? We ask a friend with a vast knowledge in the field of nutrition and supplementation what SHE thinks, and this is what our friend and colleague, Keli McBride shared with us.
Question: Why do I feel thirsty and ‘dehydrated’ when using the TRIM?
Answer: “Increasing your metabolism the way TRIM does it uses water up quickly to burn fat so you require more. With regard to metabolism, water helps the body to burn the calories it takes in through eating. With dehydration, your metabolism slows down. … A study showed that increased intake of water promotes body weight loss through decreased eating and fat loss via lipolysis.”
This is a great answer from Keli and she decided to take it a step further by doing some additional information from a website.

The Link Between Dehydration and Metabolism
When people are trying to lose weight and shred fat their main goal to long-term weight management should be to raise their metabolism (rate in which your body uses energy).
What most people fail to realize is that their hydration level directly affects their metabolism.
Water is involved with almost every biological function in the body, so therefore your body’s metabolism slows down in a dehydrated state. When your body does not have adequate amounts of water, your calorie burning machines (muscles) slow down dramatically. Over 70% of your muscle consists of water, so when they are not fully hydrated their ability to generate energy is severely inhibited.
Another important factor to understand is – your body’s ability to utilize fat as fuel is also restricted when you are in a dehydrated state. Combine these two factors and you have one slow metabolism!
The list of negative side effects to your metabolism due to dehydration is endless. The effect of dehydration is often overlooked, and in fact it should be one of the priorities of any healthy eating plan.
Taking in a sufficient amount of water, is the first step in assuring your metabolism is working at its optimal level.
Remember…your body can’t distinguish between hunger and thirst, so when your tummy is rumbling and you think it’s in need of food, it could just be telling you that it needs some water. Have a big glass of water first and if you are still hungry 15 minutes later then have something to eat. If you’re thinking my mouth gets dry when I’m thirsty, that’s how I can tell, then give this a thought…once your mouth gets dry and you feel thirsty, you are already dehydrated…therefore your body and your metabolism is already in a sluggish dehydrated state!
I hope that makes you think twice about how much water you intake each day! I find that the best way to make sure you are getting at least 2 litres, is to fill up a 2 litre bottle first thing in the morning, and make sure it has gone by the time you go to bed. Just remember you will need more on the days you exercise and in the hot weather!” – end of research and quote.
Another rule of thumb….. drink 1/2 ounce of water for every pound you weigh. (see example to the left, also stated: Drink half your body weight in water!)
Example: If you weigh 150 pounds drink 75 ounces of water per day. If you are active and sweat a lot, drink more!

What the Heck is Keli McBride up to?
Meet Keli McBride… Did she find Tavala or did Tavala find her?
It is my pleasure to introduce you to a very special lady, someone that recently crossed my path ‘again’ after several decades. It is fun when a puzzle is put together and there clearly appears to be a reason for reconnecting after all these years.
My husband, Dave, and I are professional network marketers and always delight in learning how people find this industry (or does it find them?) as well as how people, like Keli, whose backgrounds are teachers, coaches and trainers tend to do better in this industry than actual sales people. This is a ‘sharing business’ of helping people (in this case, improve their health as well as bringing financial abundance to those who seek it…) All in all, making a difference in their lives.
Today I asked Keli to share her professional background because already her expertise in nutrition and health is a huge asset to our company and our team.

26 years ago I began my career in the nutritional supplement industry where I learned that we have way more power over our health than we know! I was fortunate enough to work closely with our Nutritional Biochemist as well as our Corporate Nutritionist.
