Many people grow up knowing they want to own their own business and to be their own boss….and then there are those people like me, who discover an entrepreneurial drive later in life and wonder where it came from.
My parents were not entrepreneurial- they always worked for someone else. My father for the University of Vermont and my mother at a bank or the University of Vermont later in life. Other than my grandparents who were dairy farmers, try as I might the only ‘entrepreneurs’ I knew growing up were my best friend Laurie’s parents. They were authors of several books and articles and even had an invention that brought them residual income from time to time.
As I look back I was inspired by their flexible schedule and time freedom more than anything….but now as I look closer it was also their residual income that seemed ‘cool’ that came from book sales, or articles or sales of an umbrella that withstood heavy winds…even when they weren’t ‘doing the do’.
I didn’t understand or know of residual income back then. Sure my friends parents worked, and when they did they went to their studio behind their house so it didn’t impact the family life and ‘house’….but they seemed to have more leisure time than any other parents I knew. Oh, and due to their job and writing ‘gigs’ they traveled to cool places and had friends with affluence that invited them on fancy vacations, on their yachts etc.
I didn’t start our entrepreneurial but it ‘kind of’ found me!
Since my 30’s I have owned my own business. First it was a network marketing company that “found me”. I had no idea what network marketing was but I was introduced to a product and my passion was health, so it was a natural ‘fit’ for earning additional income. Plus I was working at a gym and had a sphere of influence so if I recommended something, people purchased.
I never made more than $1500 a month with that company but I did travel to Hawaii a couple of times, Florida, Palm Beach California, Montreal etc. and 90% of the time those trips were earned or ‘won’ and no out of pocket cost. I had never stayed in 5 Star accommodations (like the Hawaiian Hilton Villages on Oahu) or had the opportunity to wear ‘glam evening wear’ and party with people who had become wealthy beyond my imagination through network marketing. I remember thinking “I could get use to this”…. and then things changed….the company collapsed with the death of the founder and the direction the two vice presidents were taking did not appeal to me and people divided.
A couple of years later I co-owned and ran an exposition-event company. Once again, in the health industry. (body mind spirit). After ‘retiring’ from that hectic lifestyle after 10 years, at age 49 I decided to get my personal training certificate and get my Transformational Life Coaching certification….and become ‘my own boss’….just me, no ‘partner’ or employees. Since my 20’s I naturally ‘coached’ people to health and fitness…so why not get paid?
That career was geared to working with women and very gratifying. During that time I was introduced to a nutritional product from another network marketing company. Although I honestly had NO intention to become an active rep, it naturally happened as I began sharing products with my clients who could benefit…and they did. In less than 6 months I was earning MORE with my network marketing business so decided to do that full time … with my training and coaching as a ‘part time hobby’.
Once again, Network Marketing found ME!!! Now I was older and wiser and had a better grasp on the industry and how to build teams…. and this was the time in my life that I discovered how much I loved the industry of network marketing and the lifestyle benefits. It’s a CAREER…. a profession- and it takes education to perfect your skills.
So I decided to list “Why I love Network Marketing” so here you go:
I love working as a TEAM, as opposed to on my own.
I enjoy building relationships with like minded people. (some of my best friends came from network marketing!)
I get to choose who I work with and associate with.
I use MY GIFTS daily to build my business and bring on others whose gifts can be complimentary.
I represent a company and product of my own choice and they provide the inventory and send it out on my behalf.
I’m in business with myself but not BY MYSELF. It is a partnership with the company and myself as an independent distributor, or member.
I don’t need to have inventory on hand and if I want to keep a minimal stock, that is up to me.
We are in this together. A true network marketing professional knows that they alone can not build a 6 or 7 figure annual income without working together and helping others succeed.
No matter the economy or job market, you can thrive in network marketing if you have the right company (stability and leadership) and the right products. (preferably consumable and those that are affordable so people can continue to purchase even if the economy goes south).
There is a tremendous sense of satisfaction being in charge of my own destiny. I have no ‘ceilings’ on income and I get paid for what I put into the business.
This is a business of leveraging my time. I love that it is truly TEAM WORK that makes the DREAM WORK.
I own my own time. I can work long hours and every day or take off time for family, grand kids events, aging parents etc. I now own my time whereas when I began in this industry I thought I had to be on the phone day and night and always available 24/7.
I enjoy helping others and get tremendous satisfaction seeing them succeed and reach their goals.
I love being recognized for my accomplishments.
As I grow personally, my business grows. This means personal growth continues and is in the flow. It is something that continues throughout life and network marketing is often called a Personal Development ‘FACTORY’ disguised as a business opportunity.
Travel- I love the trips that are often associated with leadership and success. EARNED trips by reaching certain levels or being consistent is a beautiful reward.
Income. I have never earned this kind of income in any of my ‘jobs’ or other business ventures AND hopefully it can grow each and every month. With our current company I have to say it grows monthly and the bonus incentives grow too. We have HUGE financial goals and I have no idea that we will reach every one of them.
I get to work from home or wherever I am … at the beach, in the mountains, on a cruise, on vacation….
I get to work with my wonderful husband.
I can invite family and friends to join me and help them earn additional income passively or whatever time they wish to put into the business.
WHAT ELSE WOULD I ADD HERE???? _______________________________________
