“Self-Sabotage: 3 Things We Do to Hold Ourselves Back (and What to Do Instead)” .
Each week I get emails from Goalcast and often their articles are worth reading.
Today they posted an article entitled: “Self-Sabotage: 3 Things We Do to Hold Ourselves Back (and What to Do Instead)” .
I began to think about how true it can be in Network Marketing. We say we want one thing and “GO FOR IT” however we also have one foot on the “BRAKES” due to our belief in actually attaining the goal or deserving to! So I am using their article and interjecting visuals and a few comments that I thought were great.
Quote: I am the greatest obstacle to my greatest dreams.– Craig D. Lounsbrough
When you are reading this see if you notice anything about YOURSELF in this article. I thought it was worth posting. This article was written by Matt Valentine, September 7th, 2017.
“Something you’ll notice very quickly is that our ego, which we’ll say for the sake of the discussion is our perception of ourselves, is the culprit behind each of these three points in some way.
It’s almost unbelievable how far we’ll go to protect our ego, even going so far as to damage our relationships, goals, and our well-being. However, if you can catch the ego and beat it at its game, you can begin to uncoil its hold over you and start making real strides in your life and work.
Here are three things we do to hold ourselves back (and what to do to stop sabotaging yourself):
1. We cut off potential paths by assuming we already know how to reach our goals
(Hey if you’re in network marketing and have always had the goal to earn $20K or $50K a month, but have never done it do you think you may be self sabotaging your efforts with your actions, or lack of, or your path or your belief system?)
The first thing we do to sabotage ourselves is assume we already know exactly what needs to be done (and where we need to go) to achieve our goals. I’ve seen this time and time again and it’s absolutely one of the major culprits.
The thing is, we haven’t been there yet. We only have an idea of what it will actually take, what we’ll actually have to do, and what we may have to sacrifice. However, many of us have a hard time admitting to ourselves that we’re riding on an educated guess at best. We could be on point and have a very good idea of what it is we need to do to get to where we want to be, but it hurts us to think that we don’t absolutely one hundred percent know what we’re doing (and that we could be wrong).
What happens is we then cut off potential pathways that may arise to help us achieve our goals because we tell ourselves we know exactly what we’re doing and that the path we’re on is the right one. If we were to follow one of those new pathways we’d be admitting to ourselves (and often times others) that we don’t completely know what we’re doing, and sometimes we have a hard time doing that.
What to do instead:
You should be confident in the path you’re following, but it’s also important to stay open to whatever new opportunities or avenues may arise. Don’t become attached to the path you’re on. If you become attached to anything become attached to the goal you want to achieve.
By focusing on the goal, and telling yourself you’ll achieve your goal no matter what (and that the path you’re on to achieving that goal may change over time) you’ll be more open to changing course when it appears a better route has unveiled itself.
2. We block out criticism
This may be the most common way we self-sabotage. In the same way that we don’t like to admit we may not completely know what we’re doing (or that we don’t know if we’re on the right path), we also don’t like to face our flaws.
The problem with this form of self-sabotage is also easier to identify. By never wanting to face our flaws, we’re taking a huge risk. Our flaws don’t always hinder or stop us from realizing our definition of success right away, but they almost always backfire on us eventually if left untreated.
People like this are very easy to identify because when you make suggestions as to how they might be able to improve their process they snap back and become defensive. (Know anyone like this?)
We self-sabotage by blocking out any criticism and remaining in denial about our imperfections
What to do instead:
I was once like this, so if this is you don’t feel bad. More specifically, you shouldn’t beat yourself up but you should absolutely feel something about it and realize it needs to change. You need to understand that you are the only thing in the way of your own progress. Achieving your ultimate goals often requires other factors to come into place, but making significant progress is always in your hands.
True progress requires us to face ourselves, so the next time you receive some form of honest criticism, stop yourself and break the habit of rejecting that criticism. It may be well-placed, so take a moment to consider if the other person is right. That won’t always be the case, but if you can create the habit of honestly considering it you’ll begin to notice a pattern in the criticism you receive, allowing you to identify rightfully placed criticism and things you need to work on.
3. We don’t expand our identity level
This is another common way we self-sabotage, but it’s not the typical form of self-sabotage we’ve spoken about thus far.
When we get to a certain level of success that is just beyond what we imagine ourselves being capable of we– almost always unconsciously– sabotage ourselves to bring ourselves back down to a level that we’re comfortable with and which matches our identity level.
Identity is a bit of a nebulous term, but it has a real effect on the way we live our life. We like to stay within our comfort zone because to step outside of our comfort zone is to greet discomfort and uncertainty. This doesn’t make us feel good and we’re always unconsciously trying to avoid even small amounts of pain.
But to realize our goals and make progress is to step outside of our current selves to something greater, something bigger. When this happens we feel uncomfortable because who we’ve become and what we’re feeling are things we unaccustomed to. When this happens, we often slow down so that we’ll lose the progress we’ve made and go back down to where we were, comfortable and certain in our place.
What to do instead:
You need to be very clear about who you want to be and what you’re working towards. Once you’re clear on this, you need to think about this vision for yourself constantly. Every single day this needs to be at the forefront of your mind.
But don’t just think about it as some separate thing, imagine yourself as this person already, each time you reflect on your goals and your vision imagining you’re already that person. Over time, your identity level (your vision for yourself) will expand to meet the progress you’re making and you’ll stop sabotaging yourself.
There are many ways we sabotage our progress and hold ourselves back from realizing our potential. But if you can be open and honest with yourself, the path you’re walking, and create a vision for yourself that is bigger and better than who you are now and imagine realizing that vision, you’ll have conquered some of the most damaging ways we sabotage ourselves and be on your way to realizing your potential.”
Creating a Vision Board can help you stay on course of what you want!!!!

Stop Drinking the Company Kool Aid & Why Tavala is Different!
Many people have asked Dave and I why we left a company we had been with for over 10 years and why we chose Tavala.
Anyone who knows us knows we are very dedicated once we make a decision to do anything, and joining and working with a network marketing company is one of those things we take seriously.
It surprises me how many people claim they are professionals in the industry or that they desire to earn a 6-Figure or greater annual income, and then they bounce from company to company and join the next new and latest fads out there.
Not us. We build and develop lasting relationships because ultimately it is OUR COMPANY, our business and we want people to feel secure and have success working as a team and building a team together….for years to come!
Today my husband Dave did a brief LIVE Facebook video that I thought encompassed many things I would write in an article (aka blog) but rather than put them in writing I thought this would make it simpler.
Perhaps your reason you may not have experienced the level or kind of success in network marketing up until now, is not your fault.
Check out the video below…and Enjoy! If you can relate, we’d love to chat with you. We are looking for leaders to join our fast growing Tavala Team and we have a special spot just for you!

Joy’s Journey- Day 24 Bikram Yoga- Going for the 30-Day Challenge!
Today is the first day I had to look at the calendar and count which day I was on with Bikram Yoga. Was it 23 or 24? and to my delight, today was 24!
Day 1 I had NO IDEA what I was doing or if I could survive 90 minutes of 105 temperature with 40% humidity, but obviously by taking one day at a time I am not only surviving but my Bikram Yoga ‘practice’ is improving little by little.
If nothing else it is showing me that I am dedicated and am willing to concentrate and work through everything that is unfamiliar…oh SO unfamiliar!
Like with most goals, simply showing UP and doing the best you can is the goal with Bikram Yoga. Do what you can- the right way- and you’ll receive 100% of the therapeutic benefit. So for that, I am grateful.
I’m not going to lie….it has not been easy. Yesterday both my arms felt heavy and stiff and actually ached, that even typing on the computer keys seemed difficult. Today I took it down a notch and was more gentle on myself and as a result feel more energized than tired. How cool to listen to your own body’s wisdom and when you do, you feel better! Imagine that for a concept?
Perhaps why I feel elated today is also because it is sunny and almost 80 degrees weather here on September 13th in Vermont. Hard to believe but so welcomed. It was only a week ago that we thought fall was here and that winter was just around the corner.
It is often said that it takes 21 days in a row with any habit, whether eating, working out, doing YOGA etc. and I have to agree this is true.
For me, my goal is 30-Days straight…and then this little voice in my head says but “Bikram” himself says give him 30-days and and you’ll change your body and give him 60-days and it will change your life!”
So who I am going to listen to? Myself or Bikram himself?
60-Days could be cool, after all I did recently turn 60 years old. Typically on my Birthday I’ll do that many pushups (and not the girl ones on your knees) for every year. I think I began doing that at age 55. 60 was a stretch, but I did it, but I believe I did rest this year for 10 seconds after 30 and continued on. So you see, setting goals is something I am quite familiar with.
So as I get closer to the 30-Day mark I decided to research what I can expect by going the full 30 days.
Can you change your life in 30 days? The benefits of a Bikram Yoga 30-Day Challenge
As mentioned above, Bikram Choudhury tells his students: “Give me 30 days, I’ll change your body. Give me 60 days, I’ll change your life.” While it seems impossible given the number of unsuccessful weight loss plans and other advertised fad exercise regimens out there, Bikram Yoga studios all around the world have been fortunate enough to see several students experience the truth of this statement first-hand.
30-Day Challenges are designed to help students delve deeper into their practice, refine their postures, and gain a better understanding of their body and capabilities.
What is a 30-Day Challenge?
The goal of a 30-Day Challenge is to take a class every day for 30 days and over time see the positive physical and mental changes realized by a consistent practice.
Are 30 days of yoga in a row too much?
Not at all. (Or so they say!) Bikram Yoga is different from most other forms of exercise. Because yoga does not tear the muscles, your body does not require time to repair itself between classes. Furthermore, Bikram Yoga restores health and brings your body and mind back to balance. It is safe to take class every day, even twice a day!
What are some of the benefits of a daily practice?
Most of the people who completed their Challenge have mentioned that they sleep better, gain flexibility and muscle tone, lose weight, handle stress better, smile more often, feel more confident in their appearance, see major improvements in their yoga postures, and find other forms of exercise and daily activities easier.
During a 30-Day Challenge you also have a chance to pay better attention to your body and to the physical and mental changes happening during those 30 days.
To the right you’ll see before and after pictures. I wish I had taken pictures of ME when I started for a comparison. One thing I have noticed is that I am kinder on myself, my body, my body image, my body weight and how I look in skimpy yoga clothes. For that, in itself, I am grateful.
I’ll end here with a picture of my favorite pose. Favorite, not because I love the ‘pose’ but because it is the last of 26 poses in the series and the ONLY pose you do one time….. and from Day 1, it is one of the few poses I could do!
I am currently taking Bikram Yoga at a wonderful studio in South Burlington, Vermont called Queen City Bikram Yoga. http://www.queencitybikramyoga.com/
It is an fairly new facility so it is up to date, clean, fresh, it has wonderful instructors and everyone is friendly and makes you feel welcome. They are currently running a 30-Day challenge for the month of September, so if I do “theirs” as well as the 11-days I had ‘under my belt before September 1st’ it means I’d do 41 days in a row. I’m not quite sure about that ‘yet’. One thing I will do is ONE DAY AT A TIME!

Understanding How Women Network
Understanding How Women Network
I recently read this article, written back in 2009 and in Forbes magazine and thought it was worth passing along to our readers and members of our network. (Written by Meghan Casserly, Forbes Staff Entrepreneurship. By women, of women, for women.)
“Whether through online social networking or face-to-face contact, women are meeting, sharing and connecting in ways that men often shy away from. The result is lasting relationships that are the building blocks of future job placements, sales leads and partnerships.
We’re dissecting the ins and outs of the way women network differently than men–with the experts weighing in on the how, why and a lesson on building connections with the guys.
Do women network differently than men?
In a word, yes. “Men don’t actually network the way women define networking,” says Gail Blanke, a life coach and author of Throw Out Fifty Things: Clear the Clutter, Find Your Life. They do what she calls “a straight shot.” (http://www.throwoutfiftythings.com/)
The narrative looks like this: A man thinks, “Who do I know who has what I need right now?”–could be a job, investment tip or tickets to the game–and then he asks for it. Simple.
Women are generally more complex. “We see things from a lot of different angles, not just one straight-lined route, and so we take a roundabout route,” says Blanke. In an effort to personalize professional networking, women normally try to create connections or friendships. “Before we think, ‘What can this person do for me,’ we ask, ‘What can I do for her in order to get what I need.’”
In many cases this give-and-then-take style of networking builds long-lasting relationships. “Connecting is what it’s all about for women,” says Blanke. Think LinkedIn: “Even if she can’t help me, maybe she knows somebody who can or will think of me at some point in the future when she needs somebody. In other words, the connection is not wasted, even if there’s no immediate transaction.”
What are the benefits of building these relationships?
“Women are really good listeners, and, even at a networking event, we listen to what the other person needs so that we can help to make that happen,” continues Blanke. “Out of that comes trust. And out of that–perhaps–comes a new business contact, new boyfriend or play dates for your kids. That works for women.”
Underscoring the point, Sonya Shelton, a leadership consultant and founder of Being Present to Win, describes women’s style of networking as mutually beneficial “added value.”
“Women help each other build our businesses and our networks,” says Shelton. “We can also share what we’re learning, reach out to each other as thought-partners and have more access to best practices within our industry.”
What’s the downside to making personal connections when networking for business?
“I love your handbag,” says a woman next to you at an industry event as you’re waiting in line for a glass of Chardonnay. By the time you’ve tipped the bartender, you’ve discovered she shares your favorite designers and also has two elementary school-age kids. You exchange business cards and part with a new friend.
Now that you have a personal connection, you recommend her for a job–or perhaps hire her yourself. Well, it’s really uncomfortable if it doesn’t work out, right? After all, she’s your “friend.”
“Sometimes creating these intimate connections in networking can backfire,” says Dawn Todd, founder of Wildly Successful Woman Network, a membership-based network of female entrepreneurs. “Still, if you’ve developed a real and honest relationship, you can go to her and say, ‘My experience with your service didn’t accomplish what I thought it would. And as someone who cares about you, I want to help you.’ Now your relationship–both personally and professionally–can move forward.”
Where’s the line between networking and friendship?
It’s called pragmatism. “Many women would benefit from drawing a harder line between networking relationships and personal relationships,” says Karen Burns, author of The Amazing Adventures of Working Girl: Real Life Career Advice You Can Actually Use.
In networking, your goal is to “sell yourself” so you appear responsible, reliable and smart. Sharing TMI that makes you look otherwise can backfire. Off the table: sex, politics, drinking escapades and, well, you get the picture. “Yes, it’s good to be open and real but keep the impression you’re making in mind.”
How do I develop networking skills with men?
Men and women have very different brains and they do network differently, says Helen Fisher, Ph.D., biological anthropologist at Rutgers University and author of Why Him, Why Her. “The male brain is more compartmentalized; they get straight to the point, they know the goal. They tend to decide right away, with little to no small-talk, whether they will work with you or not.”
If you know what you want, ask for it. Drop the small talk. And if you are going to make small talk, make boy small talk, not girl talk. And get to the point.” end of article
For me, as a woman, it has always been easier to network and communicate with other women. There is no second guessing on ulterior motivation, etc. in our communications. I suppose part of that came from when I was a personal trainer and on occasion trained men. In many cases, when I complimented them for their form, or progress, they began to think I was interested in them in a personal way, rather than just encouraging them as a client professionally.
What do you think of the article? When I read it I had some “aha moments” and it made sense.
Understanding how women networking is incredibly important in network marketing, or direct sales, where you are building a team together, where everyone benefits together.

Why Network Marketing is PERFECT for Women of All Ages?
Have you noticed how many women are in network marketing? Why do you think that trend is growing?
I began to research the reason so many women are joining network marketing. It’s a growing phenomena so I thought understanding why more women than ever are getting involved in network marketing and direct sales would be insightful.
According to Women United for Change (http://www.womenunitedforchange.com) Lawyers, medical and healthcare professionals, marketing executives, pharmaceutical reps, accountants, real estate and mortgage professionals, teachers, working and stay-at-home moms, nurses, athletes, baby boomers, college students, financial planners – women from almost every imaginable background and age group are joining this profession in droves.
Why? and Why Network Marketing?
Women today want to make great money AND still have quality time with their kids, spouse (or other important priorities).
They’re tired of glass ceilings, office politics and long commutes.
They want to be in control of their schedules, to work when they want to work (and take time off when needed).
They love building a business that pays them more (and requires less of their time) as it grows, and to have no limits on the money they can make.
They want to feel the work they do makes a real difference for others, and to be part of a team that supports and helps each other.
They sense they have a bigger role to play in the world, and want to make a real and lasting contribution.
A network marketing/direct sales business gives women the opportunity to accomplish all these things (and SO much more).
This unique and collaborative business is the best option for women who want to create both an exciting income and an ideal lifestyle (and who thrive on making a real difference for others).
Women Are Great at Multi-Tasking- Sharing and Building Teams!
Women are renowned for their ability to multi-task. This is a great quality and strength to have in network marketing as you literally have to be very versatile and wear many different hats to run this type of business.
Women are Good Leaders-Women are Naturally Social-Women are Great Communicators-Women are Non-Intimidating-Women are Natural Nurturer’s- Women Offer the Right Kind of Motivation and Women are Quick Learners…
You know that women wear multiple hats and they want more: more for their families, more for their friends, more for the world, and even more for themselves.
At our core, we want it, and unfortunately, some women don’t know their options or are not excited enough to jump into something new.
Sure, there are a lot of ways to do it, and one of those ways is through Network Marketing. And guess what? As a woman, it’s in our DNA. Yes, Women were born to excel in Network Marketing.
I personally love working with other and helping other women as well as empowering one another. In network marketing competition among women, for the most part, is more friendly than in the traditional business world.
If you are a woman and looking to earn additional income part-time or full-time, check out network marketing as an option. It’s a great way to earn additional income in the ‘cracks of your life’ if you are already busy, and it has many rewards.
If you are an entrepreneur and wish to change careers or leave the corporate job/life but not give up an executive income, networking may be the answer for you. It has been for me and the income, residual I may add, that comes with building a team right and getting paid over and over and over again, is worth it.
As for which company to join, only you can determine what that company is. Please do your homework as hopefully this will be a long term relationship and you want to make the right decision on the company, and team you join.
Tavala is a unique network marketing company that is attracting both women who have never done networking in their lives, as well as seasoned leaders. There are many reasons. If you are interested in exploring the possibilities, please reach out to me. info@DaveandJoy.com or call 802-846-7530. I’m looking to mentor 2 women this month….

Joy’s “Experiment” with 2 different QUANTUM ENERGY STRIPS & what she found….
Sometimes it’s important to make a comparison with a product so others can make an educated decision which product is best for them.
Let me share a recent ‘experiment’ I did with 2 different STRIPS, that help with pain/discomfort….and bringing Quantum Energy to parts of the body that need it most.
I have been doing Bikram Yoga for 3 weeks now. Today is Day 22…. in a row! I believe in the POWER OF QUANTUM ENERGY…as everything IS energy. I had heard a friend tell me that when he wears the Strips with Quantum Energy to YOGA that his balance and energy is better. When you think of it, it makes sense.
The brief 1 minute video below explains how the Quantum Relief Strips work…check it out.
So now you can understand how the STRIPS work, here is my experiment I did in the last two weeks.
I compared two different Strips on the market, from 2 different companies. Both hold Quantum Energy and both work…. but how do they differ and which one do I feel suits ME better? That was my experiment.
The real reason I started Bikram Yoga was I had a ‘tennis elbow’ which limited my activities of tennis and weight lifting. I knew I needed something so I sat quietly and literally asked my BODY and SPIRIT what it needed. I literally heard BIKRAM YOGA.
Yikes, I didn’t want to hear that as I don’t (or didn’t) like yoga and would NEVER have chosen that on my own….but the voice was a loud whisper that I chose not to ignore. Now 3 weeks later I am loving my new practice and my tennis elbow discomfort is almost gone!
So, what does this have to do with STRIPS for discomfort? I began placing the Quantum Relief Strips on my elbow area, cutting each strip in half and placing above and below the elbow joint area. It really helps with discomfort and inflammation. In fact, I can not imagine doing Bikram in the beginning without the Strips. In addition, I placed a half of QRS (Quantum Relief Strip) on my dan tien, just below the belly button. It is great location as it is an energy source in the body and helps balance the CHI and CHAKRAS. (As I mentioned a friend swore his balance improved in yoga doing this and I needed all the help I could get with MY balance!)
I really believe the Quantum Relief Strips have made a huge difference in the past 3 weeks…and truth be told, the “QRS” (as well as other Strip) are intended to be worn daily for keeping the body healthy, the chi and energy in flow and for ‘health and well-being’.
Last week I stumbled upon a Mylar bag of an older version of a STRIP with Quantum Energy (called the PowerStrip) … it was something I have used in the past before the Quantum Relief Strips were created. I decided to make a healthy and realistic comparison between the two Strips and to honestly assess which is better for me.
Day 1 using the older Strip version: I placed a half PowerStrip above my elbow and also below my elbow joint. I also placed half below my belly on the dan tien. I went to Bikram Yoga. Now keep in mind, Bikram Yoga is done in a studio that is 105 degree temperature and 40% humidity.
Within 30 minutes of sweating the strip started to peel off. Luckily due to the sweat, I was able to ‘press it back on’ over and over so that it actually did adhere most of the class. Each class lasts 90 minutes. Could I say this actually lasted the full 90 minutes? I suppose I could, unless some of the active ingredients on the exterior were sweat off, which the way I sweat, is a possibility. As soon as I left the class and my skin began to cool off, the Strips came off completely.
The half Strip below my belly lasted all day thanks to my waist band of my yoga pants. When I did remove it, I had a rectangular imprint in that area that looked and felt like a sunburn. Perhaps the heat of the room ignited the ingredients in the strip? That I don’t know.
A couple of days later I went back to the Quantum Relief Strips and placed them in the same areas on my body. I went to Bikram Yoga 2 days in a row. Although the Strips were still adhering in all three areas through two 90-minute classes and 2 showers, I removed them and applied a new ones. Each strip is effective for 48- hours.
For me, and this is only a personal observation, but FOR ME the Quantum Relief Strips work better and adhered superior to the PowerStrips. Are both products good products? Yes, indeed they are, but for me and my active lifestyle with Bikram, baths, showers and occasional swimming, the Quantum Relief Strips, hands down, are a better value. The cost of both products is approximately the same (PowerStrips are slightly higher in price) although for the Quantum Relief Strips through TAVALA, the cost for both customers and members is the same. $54.99. (USA pricing)

Why Chiropractors are LOVING Tavala’s Quantum Relief Strips
Most chiropractors I know have their own story on how they came to be a chiropractor, and most of the people I personally know who ARE chiropractors take a body-mind-spirit approach to their practice.
With that being said, they are in a great position to help many people who go to them for chronic issues as well as for over-all balance of the body and wellness.
I have noticed over the years that many chiropractors I know also take an interest in nutrition for their clients as they understand the ramifications of a diet that causes inflammation, as well as one low in nutrients and how it affects the overall health in the body. Also being overweight can cause issues that create back pain, misalignment etc.
One product that has recently caught the attention of many chiropractors around the world are the Quantum Relief Strips. Since most people who initially GO to a chiropractor go because of pain or discomfort, these strips are a perfect ”add on” product that helps their patients use both during as well as in between adjustments and appointments.
Chiropractors often recommend a maintenance package of regular adjustments to keep the body working optimally, especially after an injury or initial trauma. The Quantum Relief Strips bring positive energy to parts of the body that need it most.
Simply peel off the plastic backing and apply to the area of the body you wish to bring ENERGY to. Although many people use the QRS for ‘relief’ (aka, simply place them where you hurt) they are also good to wear daily to help balance the energy in the body, bringing chi to all areas, balancing the Chakras, etc.
Chiropractors that I have spoken to say that their clients get better and longer relief results when using the Quantum Relief Strips along with their chiropractic care. Not everyone can afford the time or expense of chiropractic care several times a week, so the Strips are a great option for most clients.
A 28-day supply cost $54.99 and each ‘strip’ lasts 48 hours. They can also be worn in pool therapy, a shower or even swimming as they adhere extremely well and nothing ‘washes’ off that will affect the efficacy.
Chirpractors also find that the clients adjustments hold longer when using the strips on a regular basis, and that when they see them for their scheduled sessions, that the body is more receptive to receive the adjustment as opposed to being in a traumatic state.
The future of health care includes ‘ENERGY’ work as we are all made of energy! Chiropractic work opens the chi and energy pathways so natural healing and cellular communication can take place.
Dr. Min Soo Kim created the Quantum Relief Strips claims they are 5x more powerful than his first generation strip that he created back in 2012. New developments occur within science and like most things, new discoveries bring improvements in technology. This also applies to the science of ENERGY and HEALTHCARE…. so why not use the best and most recent technology available?
If you are a chiropractor, or other natural health care practitioner, such as a massage therapist, acupuncturist, Reiki practitioner, etc. the Quantum Relief Strips can complement what you do…and even enhance your clients long term results.
Most practitioners I know recommend products/services and nutrition to their patients that will offer the best results… so why not Quantum Relief Strips? The chiropractors I know find that having the “Quantum Relief Strips” or often called QRS, available in their practice (and eventually available online for their clients) also provides a great service. It can also creative a passive yet lucrative income source for your practice, with little to any overhead costs.
With the Quantum Relief Strips customers and members pay the same low price of $64.99 so there is no discussion about a client/patient SIGNING UP for anything to get a better price. Most health care professionals prefer that. The QRS are only available through a company called TAVALA and can be purchased through www.DaveandJoy.com
We highly recommend each person try a 28-Day sample pack for best results, however if you would like to experience a 2-Strip sample pack you can get it here. www.TryOurSamples.com

Joy’s Bikram Journey… Days 19 & 20 BAM….What Hit Me?
Day 20 today. I left my Bikram Yoga Class today and asked my husband, “Did you get the License plate number”. He replied: “License plate, What are you talking about?” Me: “The truck that HIT ME broadside today during yoga!!!!”
OK, so we all have good days and bad days, right? and in Bikram yoga, it is no different. Yesterday I bounced into class all peppy, 20 minutes early. I did a first ever in my Bikram Yoga 30 day challenge- I positioned myself in the FRONT ROW, where I could see myself in the mirror…. my whole self.
It seems like I mastered poses I had not before, OK, mastered is an exaggeration, but honestly there is something about staring into your own eyes for 90 minutes that was very powerful. During those 90 minutes I actually begged for my YOGA guides to help me. Surely we have yoga guides, right?
The only error I made yesterday is I wore what is equivalent to a snowsuit in Bikram (long Prana belled at the bottom yoga pants and a ‘spank type’ built in bra type of top…long in length! The heat could not escape even if it tried. BUT- it didn’t matter. It was a great “practice”….one of my best.
Most women- even the full figured gals, know that wearing less clothes in 105 degree heat with 40% humidity is the way to go. It’s not unusual to see women in bikini bathing suit type bottoms (you know they MAKE Bikram bottoms like that and they cinch at the sides?)…always with a skimpy sport bra. (The fancier the criss-cross in the back, the more popular). OR, they wear bootie shorts or capris, but rarely does anyone wear what I wore….and it will be my last time. The only benefit is I could WRAP my sweaty foot around the ‘bell’ and hang on during poses better.
Today I went INTO yoga tired. Perhaps it was because it was Day 20 in a row and I didn’t sleep well the last two nights, or because I had experienced 2 hours of body work 2 days ago and felt like I was recovering from the healing massage. I KNEW going in today that I felt ‘weaker’ but I still showed up and gave it my best.
My best today, was OK -nothing earth shattering AND I knowingly positioned myself in the BACK ROW. Typically in the back row you can still see yourself in the far distant mirror but not today. Unfortunately, (or fortunately) today I could not see myself at ALL because of where the instructor was perched upon the box. So, from now on- I will, no matter what, be able to have eye contact during the session.
Some well-meaning friends and even family think I am a bit EXTREME with this 30-day challenge, but I don’t think so. Yes, it is a physical and mental challenge for sure, but I like where it is taking me.
If you are inspired, check out BIKRAM yoga in your area. I believe most studios offer an introductory 30 Days for $30 package. If you are in Burlington Vermont I highly recommend Queen City Bikram Yoga, http://www.queencitybikramyoga.com/ owned by Marla Ceppetelli.
I think I have experienced at least 7 of their instructors and they are all fantastic! In her own words she says: “Welcome to Queen City Bikram Yoga. We are so happy you are here. Why? Because all of our students and teachers took a first class. We all were trepidatious. We all survived and we all feel better!
There are no requirements to come to class. You can come to any class on any day. If you feel nervous, excited, worried, self-conscious or not good enough to come to class then you are like the rest of us.
You can do this yoga whether you are old or young, injured or fit, sick or healthy, happy or sad. It is never too late to feel better. All you need to do is show up and be prepared to change your life.”
When I went into my first class I was petrified….truly- but I felt at home and welcomed. I had NO IDEA that I would take on my own challenge and do BIKRAM 30-Days in a row when I began. I was simply taking it one day at a time, and still am.
THEN the studio decided to conduct THEIR 30-Day Challenge for the month of September. Yikes, if I do that it will take me to 41 days in a row. Am I “up for it?” I have no idea. Like I said, one day at a time.
So what are you doing to challenge yourself?
Challenges are fun as long as you are also gentle on yourself and realize that there will be ‘good’, ‘better’ days or an occasional ‘rotten day’.
Enjoy the process…. and Don’t postpone JOY.

Remembering Why I Started…. Joy’s Journey with Bikram Yoga and Beyond!
I don’t know about you but I must thrive on goals. I don’t know if that is normal but most of my life it seems like I am setting goals- planning the execution (usually creatively) and then hopefully remembering to celebrate when I actually attain them.
Sometimes in the past I have built up to attainment and then when I reach it there is a let down….or I forgot to actually ‘champion myself in attaining whatever goal I set out to attain’.
Has that ever happened to you? Always striving to arrive and not really enjoying the process ?
In mid-August I decided to slow down and enjoy each and every day in a new and different way. Since yesterday is the past and tomorrow is the future, enjoy TODAY for it really is the “PRESENT”….and today is all we have.
Recently I began Bikram Yoga. When I joined it was with an intro of 30 days for $30….. meaning you can take a class each and every day for 30 days. BAM! I don’t know when I created the goal to do Bikram 30 days in a row, but it has become my goal.
Funny thing is a month ago I never would have expected to do yoga EVER….and now here I am. What happened?
Our bodies create opportunities to have things show up if only we listen. My right elbow was my guide here as it became painful to play tennis and lift weights so I went ‘inward’ and asked my body & soul what it needed and I heard LOUD AND CLEAR, Bikram Yoga. ???? Really???? (By the way, without a sore elbow I can almost guarantee I never would have choose yoga.)
I could have fought it, however at age 60 I am old and wise enough to act when I hear that ‘special whisper’. I admit that sometimes in my life I have ignored that inner voice….and it took a lot longer to get where I wanted to go with the detour. Not good or bad, just a longer journey.
Several people who know me well have asked what changed where now I not only wear yoga clothes as I always have, but actually I am now DOING Yoga? Why did I begin and why am I driven?
Each and every day I wake up and remind myself why I started. Like most 12-Step programs…. one day at a time.
So 20 days ago I look at myself in the mirror. I didn’t cry but I also wasn’t totally excited with the woman looking back at me in the mirror.
I have always been healthy, strong and lean but the lady in the mirror looking back at me looked different. Confidence was missing in her eyes! So I talked to her and heard some reasons why I ought to consider the shift and why Bikram Yoga would be good for ‘her’, aka ME. Although I have gracefully embraced my age, I have not embraced my body since menopause.
The most driving reason I am doing Bikram Yoga is I want to be healthy/flexible and have a healthy longevity. I have a family I love, that include grandchildren and I want to be vibrant and healthy so I can see them grow up and can be a part of their world- and their children’s world. I’m in a loving marriage and want to be healthy together til our last breath.
Yes, perhaps across the board I am healthier than most women my age, but it still doesn’t mean anything unless you are happy with how you LOOK and FEEL!
I see my parents and in-laws age and although they are vibrant in their own way in their mid to late 80s…. I personally want to be able to travel and explore and have the strength and health to do so well into my 90’s, if I choose.
Much of my life I have concentrated on my physical body and my physical health- perhaps spurred on by body building at age 30. (Once again, another goal…can I do it and win after giving birth to 2 children 4 and 5 years prior? I needed to prove to myself that I could! Much like with 30-Days of Bikram Yoga)
Ahhh, the ultimate shape and size….body fat, etc. OK, so I proved that I could reach a lean (unhealthy I may add) 8.5% body fat and win my category in a Body Building competition but that didn’t make me any happier. In fact there was such a let down after that experience that I still can’t shake to this day.
Fast forward 30 years and the health I am seeking today is more well-rounded. Not just the physical beauty aspect of what one sees in the mirror, but the soul-spirit connection. Although some people think going to a zen yoga class that is gentle with spiritual music may feed my soul better, right now the challenge (mentally and physically) of Bikram Yoga is where I am at and fuels the challenge!)
Ultimately I want to love, appreciate and enjoy who I am in the world. Don’t we all? Since making ‘MY SELF CARE’ a priority it has shifted into other areas of my life. Hallelujah!
Yes, without question part of the transformation is still the PHYSICAL BODY and one ‘must do’ is melting my men-o-pot (belly fat) so that I am a healthier and lean post menopausal woman. Belly fat is toxic, unattractive and honestly, very difficult to have when trying to do yoga poses. (no kidding!!!) Not to mention, clothes just don’t fit the same when your belly is large.

I know that having additional income in all households offers additional options, no matter the current level of wealth. It’s about a shift in consciousness with abundant thinking….not just MONEY! When we have abundant thoughts we think beyond ourselves…which led Dave and I to discover an amazing organization that is doing great things throughout the world, for women. (And when women are empowered, face it, families and communities are empowered!)
We recently partnered with an organization called WEA, Women’s Earth Alliance http://womensearthalliance.org/ and are donating 5% of our customer sales to their organization each month. This includes any of the products off our website, www.DaveandJoy.com or even through our sampling site, www.TryOurSamples.com. It may not sound like a lot of money, but in time, we hope it will add up to being able to make a difference in the lives of many.
So there you go… today is Day 19 doing Bikram. I am actually looking forward to my ‘practice today’. Will it be perfect? YES and NO. Yes for ME, as I’ll do my best, and that is all they ask at Bikram. If you can do it – DO IT, and if not, at least do what you can… but do it ‘the right way’.
I doubt the majority of my poses today will actually look like those in a Bikram book- but this is OK. Today is another day, another opportunity for self-care and self-love. By filling MY CUP daily I am in a great position to help others in my life and beyond.
So what is YOUR goal? Your STORY? Mine is ever-changing and I like the changes. It’s all about today and eventually tomorrow, but I leave my story from yesterday at the door. Life Coaching taught me that!
If you are inspired to share your journey or how you may be able to relate, let me know. I’d love to hear. If you have ever set a goal similar that seemed insurmountable like 30-Days of Bikram Yoga is for me, please share.
If you are looking for a way to become the better version of you in the HERE & NOW, perhaps I can offer guidance. I am a Transformational Life Coach although I don’t ‘practice’ that, rather I incorporate it in my life and in my Tavala business.
