Professions that Require Weight & Fitness Levels, TAVALA can help! (Police, Military…)

There are certain PROFESSIONS that require regulations on certain levels of health, fitness and weight but to keep this simple we are talking about police officers and arm force personnel… and by law they HAVE TO BE FIT to be effective ‘on the job’….. and, how, pray tell….does this relate to TAVALA TRIM?

I remember years ago when a friend of mine succeeded in putting together a full workout gym at the local police department. Sonny was really into fitness and he was strong and muscular….. the ‘ideal’ fit person you’d want to have ‘back you up’ if there were ever a problem or crises and you needed someone to help save your life.

He succeeded in getting the gym implemented but it took a lot of effort beyond that to have them begin to implement true guidelines that everyone HAD to adhere to – or lose their job or reduce their pay. I recall one of his concerns was his police chief and other local officers, were clearly very out of shape and at least 40-50 lbs. over weight…. not exactly a great example. “That could create a casuality”, Sonny had told me, if your backup was out of shape/over weight and had a heart attack while chasing a criminal! No kidding!

Another time, when managing a gym, there were some guys who were part of the National Guard and needed to drop weight by a certain date AND also be able to run a certain distance in a certain amount of time. I don’t recall the details. The problem was not that they needed to get fit and drop weight, but they waited until the last 2 weeks to make it happen. Those who didn’t were demoted or got a decrease of pay. Talk about STRESS…and with more stress, losing weight becomes even more difficult!

True, as designed, these guidelines ensure that everyone is healthy, physically fit, and ‘combat’ ready. Most program requires you to meet specific weight standards, which are based on their height, weight, and gender. In most cases, failure to pass the organizations minimum weight or body fat percentage standards will make you ineligible for promotion, transfer, reenlistment or opportunities to attend professional schools.

Obesity rates exceeded 35 % in four states, 30 % in 25 states and are above 20 % in all states.

Approximately one in four young adults — ages 17 to 24 — are too overweight to join the military. Being overweight or obese is the leading medical reason why young adults cannot enlist. And, the military spends more than $1.5 billion on healthcare costs and on recruiting replacements for those who are too unfit to serve.

DIABETES THE NEXT EPIDEMIC?

Nationwide, diabetes rates have nearly doubled in the past 20 years — from 5.5 percent (1994) to 9.3 percent in 2012. More than 29 million American adults have diabetes and another 86 million have pre-diabetes.

The CDC projects that one-in-three adults could have diabetes by 2050. More than one-quarter of seniors (ages 65 and older) have diabetes (25.9 percent or 11 million seniors). Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States, accounting for around $245 billion in medical costs and lost productivity each year.

HYPERTENSION

One in three adults has high blood pressure, a leading cause of stroke. Approximately 30 percent of hypertension cases may be attributable to obesity, and the figure may be as high as 60 percent in men under age 45.
