This time of year can be stressful.
I don’t know about you, but between holiday parties, gifts to buy, and errands to run — it gets downright exhausting! Often times I even feel out of control. Do you?
And to make matters worse, you find yourself putting off the things that make you happy…
All in favor of checking one more thing off your “to-do” list.
Now, while it may seem silly to take time from your busy schedule to “cut loose,” having a little fun isn’t really silly at all.
Because taking a little time for yourself to “play” can be instrumental when it comes to maintaining your health and well-being.
Here’s why:
• Laughing can help reduce your blood pressure and improve circulation, which keeps your body in prime condition.
• Having fun and exercising helps keep your mind sharp as you age.
• Using your imagination can help you reduce stress and keep you feeling happy and calm.
The important thing is to simply take some time to do whatever makes you happy…
Because hobbies, sports, or even a great conversation with friends can help you de-stress and improve your mood.
And here’s something that may surprise you:
Enjoying yourself can also boost your gut health.
You see, stress and your microbiota are connected, thanks to the gut-brain axis.
And your bad gut bugs don’t just thrive on junk food. They can actually “feed” on stress, too. Yikes!
So, taking a little time to play and keep yourself feeling relaxed can actually keep your gut healthy, too!
Now, if you don’t know where to start, think about what you did for fun growing up.
You can play the same games, or join a community sports team, or simply call up an old friend to get together and LAUGH.
No matter what your interests are — just remember to take a little time for yourself during this “crazy” time of year.
It’s good for your happiness — and your health.
