Why Network Marketing?
How we went through career loss, annual household income drop of over $125K, assets and property taken away, and the role network marketing played…

Attending the University of Tennessee on an athletic scholarship to play football, earning both All-SEC and Academic All-SEC honors while there, graduating with a business finance degree, being drafted by the L.A. Rams in the Spring of 1990, and meeting the woman of my dreams!!

After a short (VERY Short) tenure with the Rams, I settled into life within the financial services industry, married that woman of my dreams >>>> and she and I were off and running at this game called life!!

One thing led to another, and within a few years I ended up in the commercial banking sector and my banking career was born. Over the next 15 years or so, I worked long hours, weekends, and holidays (yeah, I know, doesn’t sound like banker hours..LOL) building relationships and building my book of business. That hard work was rewarded with promotions, pay raises, and several relocations. Through it all, my rock and my primary supporter cheered me on, all the while, making sure the home-front was in good working order, EVEN while holding down her own career as a Radiologic Technologist. Even when we decided to start a family, Krista was ALL-IN in supporting me and my (our) career.

After having our first child Benjamin, we made the decision for Krista to stay at home with our son and become a stay at home mom. We both were working longs hours and she felt like she was missing out on so much of his life. So we made the decision for her to quit her job and jump full time into motherhood!

Fast forward just a bit, the banking career had progressed. I was now in executive management and in charge of an entire region within the banks operating territory as a Regional President. Krista and I added our second child, our beautiful daughter Emily, we built our dream home, and we were members of the Disney Vacation Club >>> Making an annual pilgrimage to the House of Mickey . We were living within our means, putting money into my 401(k), and making plans for a bright future and possible early retirement!!

Then in 2008/2009 the entire financial world was turned on its ear, and like millions of others, my banking career ended abruptly, without warning and without cause. At first, while we were obviously concerned, we had savings, a generous severance package, and we believed that another bank “job” was right around the corner. What we didn’t know was just how bad, and how long, this economic recession (depression) would actually be.

At this point the children were in middle and elementary school, among many other financial sacrifices, the annual pilgrimage to Mickeys House was discontinued, explaining that to young children is none-to-easy …… As the savings and severance pay started running low, our concerns become larger and larger. My awesome wife, who had been volunteering at the elementary school for a couple of years got herself added to the staff. This allowed us to keep health insurance benefits after my COBRA benefits expired >>> THIS move on her part would prove to be a miracle in of itself as you will learn shortly……

By now, you are probably asking yourself, where is this all going? What does all this have to do with network marketing and Tavala?

Well, a few months prior to my banking career ending, I was approached by a friend about a product that was healthy and was reported as helping with blood pressure and cholesterol. He knew me well, he knew I was on meds for both of those conditions. I tried it, liked it, and even though I had NO interest in the business aspects >> I enrolled with him to be a USER of the product only. I mean WHY would a bank president actually need to do network marketing?? Well, the products were good and as a result, my health improved and was able to quit taking my meds. I was pleased with that decision, I just wish my arrogance regarding the business had not stood in my way of “seeing” the benefit of building a business BEFORE you actually might NEED that income!!

When my banking career ended just like that, I began looking for other work within the banking industry, obviously with no luck. Banks would continue to downsize for the next 3-4 years. Within a few months I started looking for any kind of work, but it became very difficult for me to accept that I was “over qualified”. I got so desperate at one point I applied to be a truck loader working the 11pm-5AM shift, so I could still look for work during the day. They said I was “over qualified” >> REALLY??!! The job was literally loading trucks with boxes…… During these months of looking for work with no luck, Krista and I made the decision to pursue this “thing” called network marketing. We felt as though we were led to be involved, at least as a way to earn some income until a new career was secured. And YES >

So we dove in the network marketing industry head first >>> Attending every meeting, every seminar, every corporate meeting, anything and everything we could attend >>> to learn ALL we could. At the same time, we were trying to build our team, doing everything wrong >> LOL, but what we did have was passion and sincerity. That passion and that “realism” >>> people could relate to and we started to see a team beginning to grow. All the while I was battling a tremendous amount of depression and a sense of failure as a husband, father, and provider >> as our overall household financial situation was still not better. What money we made from networking, coupled with Krista’s salary at the school, plus what odds and ends jobs I could muster, was nowhere close to my previous banking salary. As the savings ran out, we started getting the late notices, delinquency and default notifications. I was able to provide enough money for the fundamentals, but not enough to cover the things we owed money on. Then to top it all off, our son, became very ill and almost died. He was immediately diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and rushed to the hospital. By the Grace of God they were able to get his blood sugars stabilized and he would OK. After that shock wore off we learned that he would need to be on insulin the remainder of his life. Even with the insurance that Krista was able to provide through work, we were staring at monthly prescriptions for his meds, test strips, and needles of several hundreds of dollars each month (would have been over $1000 without insurance, hence the miracle foreshadowing earlier). So, for a husband and father who was struggling to feed his family, the additional pile on of medical expenses was almost more than I could bare.

Through all this time, God blessed my wife with a heart of patience, support and LOVE. She NEVER, not ONCE did she ever criticize or back track on our decision to pursue networking. I am sure she felt like it at times , but by the Grace of God, all she did do >>> was love me unconditionally. Something that I am truly unworthy and will forever be grateful >>> I am truly a blessed man!

Looking back on that chapter of our life, we were in fact “led” into network marketing, not because of financial freedom, not because of the products, not for living a life of an entrepreneur and making millions of dollars, none of these was the TRUE reason. God led us to network marketing because He knew the demons that I would be facing internally over the next several years and there were people within the network marketing “path” that He would bring into my walk that would be instrumental in helping me hold onto what little HOPE that I had left >>>> That’s right, we were led to network marketing because God knew that I would need a light of HOPE in my life. You see network marketing, when it is done CORRECTLY in the field, is SO much more than a financial freedom vehicle, SO much more than time freedom vehicle >>> The simple truth is this >>> Network Marketing (when done properly) is something that is brought into people’s lives that can give them HOPE, give them a team of people that truly care about each other and THEM, it allows people to see others when they are at their BEST!

There was a time, when I still had plenty of life insurance in place on my life, and I would be lying, if I said that I never considered the financial aspects of allowing Krista to receive those proceeds………I never came close to planning anything, but I definitely weighed the financial repercussions of what “if” ……. I have often wondered, If I did not have that dream of hitting “Diamond” in that original company we were with, what would I actually have done……..

The MESSAGE we carry is FAR more important than any product that we may have in our catalog.

So, for us, network marketing checks off all the usual categories of “WHY”, but for us, we choose to share our story, not just because of money or time freedom, but because it just might save another couple by giving them HOPE. HOPE that they can find success in each other and in life, no matter what path they choose.
Our son Ben is now a sophomore at Georgia Southern University pursuing a degree in biology with plans on attending medical school. Our daughter will attending University of Tennessee in the Fall of this year beginning her studies in sports medicine. Krista continues her tenure in the local school system and Kent has successfully started his own company providing construction management services as well as having a partnership in a local tax preparation and business services operation.

Meet Jim and Teri Stull. Dynamic duo!

In their own words….well, actually in “Teri’s words”!

“In life so many people have their good times and bad times. Some people struggle with finances, careers, etc. but for us it was our weight loss struggle that had us singing the blues. On the positive note, it is what ultimately brought us together.

My life and my husband Jim’s was no exception. Throughout both our lives we have gained the same weight over and over again and then some. You know, you lose 20 lbs. but end up gaining 25, and it goes on and on, especially as we age.

I feel like I have dieted the majority of my life and experienced what many do as a roller coaster ride…. and then there is Jim’s story with weight gain- true….his was different than mine. Jim had been a collegiate athlete playing college football! He didn’t have an emotional eating issue like I had when we met but he had gained weight as he slowed down his activity in the gym or in working out.

I’ll never forget when we met. It was 2008 and to our amazement we were both involved in a network marketing company which just happened to be a weight loss company. Being overweight, no matter the reason, can make a person get depressed and discouraged! Can you relate? As an example Jim would go to the doctor and be told he needed to go on a diet and start the whole process over again and his -and ultimately OUR -life would change based on ‘diet’. OMG!

Flashback to the year 2001… Jim decided that he was tired of his stressful -yet successful- business life as an insurance specialist and financial planner and told wife at the time, (no,not me!) that he was moving onto something more he was more passionate about that can utilize his skills and relationships and also where he could be his own boss. Guess what? Network Marketing found him and he was a natural. Customers/Clients/ believed in Jim and wanted what he had discovered…. a business/company that helped people get healthy and guess what? Lose weight!!!! To say Jim was a success with this company is an understatement!

Many say he was called the ‘Golden Goose’ as whatever he touched turned to gold. Jim built a huge organization of 150,000 people but ended up selling it to his upline when he and his wife got divorced. The positive side of this is once you have experienced success in this industry, you know it is possible.

Even though we believed in this industry and wanted to improve our health (and yes, lose weight) timing is crucial. In March of 2017 a friend (Jennifer Dillon) from our previous company reached out to share a new product for weight loss and energy. She told me it was a thermogenic drink, boosted the metabolism, gave energy and focus and also helps suppress cravings and the appetite. Are you kidding? This is something both Jim and I have been looking for all along. Easy-peesy- She reached out to ME, not Jim as let’s just say he would not have been open after trying so many products over the years….including with our previous company.

I began using the Tavala TRIM sample that Jennifer shared. She was afraid to talk to Jim, as I was – why? Well, we had 10 other products that were supposed to do the same thing in our cupboard. All of them were not palpable. Jennifer knowing me and knowing that I would be more open and asked me if I wanted more energy and lose weight. Of course I said yes! I purchased the Trim and started my healthy journey with Tavala. Within a week I had lost five pounds and another week I had lost ten pounds.

Jim asked me what I was doing I told him I was just walking the dogs. I must admit for the first time in my life I didn’t have to diet to lose weight and it was easy! I could eat a piece of pizza or eat a piece of pie without gaining the weight back. TRIM delivers! Cravings were gone!

D-day was April 1, 2017 for Jim- I wanted my husband back! Not only had he gained weight but he was showing signs of dementia. Boy did he feel it!

“In Her Own Words”…

My name is Chantell Varence, a native of the beautiful island of Nassau, Bahamas.
I am a self-motivated, self-driven 41 year-old single Mompreneur with three adorable children; my son is an 18-year old soccer athlete and I have two incredibly talented trilingual daughters, ages 10 and 9.

Growing up as a child, I have always found myself motivating, inspiring, and encouraging my peers to tap into their inner gifts, which will eventually ignite a fire inside of them to pursue their God-given purpose, which I believe would someday make one “wealthy.” Believe me, I did not understand what my purpose in life was either, until I discovered a world called “Network Marketing” in 1999, after having my son. That is when I first heard of the industry.

I never imagine having a child out of wedlock at the age of 22, would have brought me to a place called “Purpose.” I was scared, broke and broken, and most significantly, I was disappointed with myself. I was between a rock and a hard place, and was left in the valley of decision. I was scared because I felt as if I would bring so much pain, shame and disappointment to my mother, because I got pregnant a few months after returning home from college after receiving my bachelor’s degree, and I did not give myself time to pursue my dream to become a Motivational Speaker.

I was broke and broken because, I did not have a full-time job coupled with the fact that I needed to make a decision as to whether or not I would abort my child and not hurt my mom. This whole ordeal made me question myself as I felt that I had not only disappointed myself, but I had also failed those that believed in me.

Six weeks after delivering my son, who is affectionately called “RJ”, I was hired full-time as a Computer Programmer in a government agency in The Bahamas. I took the job just to regain my grace with my mom. Not one day went by without me feeling unfulfilled while working 9 to 5 because I was just collecting a paycheck. (No passion!) But one day, I was on the bus and a stranger said these words to me, “You look like a striving young lady, would you be open to me showing you how I make extra money part-time” and my reply was “Sure.”

That night she came by my mom’s house and introduced me to the Network Marketing industry, and to this day, whenever I see Ms. Denise White, I hug and kiss her, because she rescued me from that place called broken. This industry of Network Marketing has brought my relationship with my mother closer and I am most grateful. In that moment, I discovered that many persons are searching to find something different and more fulfilling in their lives.

We all join this industry for different reasons, and for this, we must be sensitive and have an open ear to hear what people are silently saying in most cases. Some join to connect with like-minded people like themselves, some join to foster a better relationship in their marriage, family and/or for personal development, some join for tax-deductions, some join for the money, and sometimes some people may join just to be accepted or to feel as if they belong. Then, on the other hand, some people join because it is the only family they have got. You get to meet such a diverse, cultural and ethnic group of people from all walks of life.

As for me, here is why I love this industry of Network Marketing so much! Network Marketing saved my relationship with my mother and has brought us some much closer. We have fostered a relationship as a result of working together in the initial network marketing company, and it is doing the same for me and my son. This was a dream come true for me. I always wanted a bond with my mom, but it was shattered after my parents got a divorce and I became rebellious as a result of that. All I ever wanted was a happy family, a mother-daughter relationship and my dad coaching me through life. Hence, I am determined and I am fueled daily to create such a legacy for my children to remember me by, and to empower them to become entrepreneurs as well. I am my kids #1 fan and supporter. TIME and FINANCIAL FREEDOM are important to me, and because of this vehicle called TAVALA, I was able to resign from my job of 18 ½ years, and now I work my TAVALA business full-time.

God has blessed me with a supportive mother and children always by my side and cheering me on. Also, I have outstanding servant-leaders as my uplines, Dave and Joy, Richard and Kathy, a group of hard-working, self-determined individuals on my team. I cannot forget to add a thank you to the man who was determined to get a “yes” that I would join his Tavala team. I kept my word with Hindel that I will sign up after 2 months, so for him, I am forever grateful that he shared this opportunity with me. Thank you all so much for believing in me. I love you all.

To the leaders in Tavala, “Thank you” so much for opening up Tavala to The Bahamas market and for entrusting me to run the ‘warehouse’ in Nassau. Not only have I been transformed financially, but I have experienced an inner and outer transformation as well in body, mind and soul.

“About two years before I joined Tavala, I had entered a very dark period due to some personal issues. I had gained more than 45 lbs. and pretty much never left my house.
I went to my doctor for help and he gave me his canned response, “I do not prescribe for appetite control.” I was hurt and angry that he did not hear my desperation.

As life would have it, a colleague from another business offered me free samples from a new company which had only been open for two months. He said they were helping people get healthy!

He sent me three samples but after just one Trim Stick, I called him back and said, “Sign me up. This stuff works!”

It’s with pleasure to introduce you to “Powerhouse” Zeth Francis, from the Bahamas.

In her own words….

“The Senator” is what they call me in my professional life & throughout the islands of The Bahamas, but my birth name is “Zeth” meaning “investigator,” “Appointed & “the replacement.”

When one was given a name with so many significance, it’s with conviction I MUST succeed at anything I do. Nevertheless, not in a million years would I have thought I would be taking weight loss supplements. Especially, strangely since as a teenager I’ve always taken products to make me GAIN weight (Crazy I know).

Growing up on 2 small islands Nassau & Freeport (Bahamas) I became a teenage mother forcing me at a young ago to be an entrepreneur.

About a year leading up to the September 11th tragedy, I had owned two successful businesses and due to the halt of visiting tourists, resulting in the downturn in the economy in our country, I was forced to closed one business in 2001 & the other in 2012. Needless to say I had to MAKE something happen, so I became a talk show host & got job as a Quality Analyst. Well one day things changed & I became unemployed, struggling with trying to stay above water selling clothing and doing whatever I could do.

But it physically, mentally & emotionally took a toll on my life, laying around the house eating and drinking everything I shouldn’t I had gained a lot of weight. Its amazing to see how I watched my body changed 3 times in my lifetime- once at 15 during my teenage pregnancy, twice after my daughter at age 36 & thirdly due to being unemployed.

Then one day my cousin Natasha called me and said she had a new Weight Loss product called Tavala Trim that she wanted me to try & how I can also get paid.

Needless to say I was NOT interested, but started sending her clients who I knew wanted to lose weight. Then a few weeks later- to my surprise as I checked my emails, I was like ‘ WDH’ is this? We encourage others to be 100% authentic in sharing “their story” and yet we stopped telling OUR story on network marketing and why we LOVE this industry….so we thought we’d share it here!

When we first met, in 2005 we were both involved in network marketing but with different companies. It was fun to support each others entrepreneurial juices and we understood the dedication it takes to build and support a team.

The end of 2007 we moved from Arizona to Vermont to be close to family and to support our daughter who was having her first baby. People asked how we could sell everything (including Dave’s car) and move across country without a job…but the truth is they just didn’t understand we HAVE A JOB, it’s called being a a network marketing professional and we’ll be fine! One of the best things about this industry is you can live anywhere, as long as you have internet and a cell phone.

In 2008 both of the companies we were with were going through some major changes and when I say MAJOR- I mean Major! Relationship breakups with Dave’s company had the owners splitting and dividing…. changing everything that Dave had built. The company I was with changed from a Uni-level compensation plan to a Binary- as well as changed names of the company and many products. It felt like everything I had built was slipping away. Even the $500 monthly car bonus I once received was taken away, leaving me with a monthly car payment of $650. What is wrong with that picture?

We hung in there as long as we could until we were behind on all of our bills. Even though our monthly checks were less, our bills continued to grow. Winter in Vermont is not cheap!

Around that time we knew we needed to make a change….. although we didn’t give up on the industry, we decided we needed to get a job…. and for both of us, that was devastating as we had been our own boss for most of our lives. Still, you do what you need to do.

I took a job opening a franchised 24-hour health club- working LONG and crazy ‘gym hours’. Dave even considered moving to Asia to teach English to pilots, as he was a flight instructor, a pilot and used to buy and sell airplanes. Luckily for us, he never did move overseas. Instead he worked multiple jobs, piecing them together to bring in a somewhat sustainable income. At 3:30 in the morning he would get up to deliver newspapers- not a long term plan, especially in the winter months. We owned only one vehicle that eventually was repossessed when we finally realized paying $650 month for a car was ridiculous. For a while Dave borrowed my dads truck to deliver the newspapers and I took public transportation to get to my job.

In addition to delivering newspapers he would then go to the gym I managed and was the janitor …oh yeah, and and on the weekends was a manager at the Days Inn!

While at the gym I introduced him to a member who had a painting company and was looking for painters and he hired Dave that spring to paint houses and condos part-time. Imagine being in your 50’s painting in the hot sun on 28′ ladders. Still, you do what you have to do. Eventually Dave became a personal trainer, adding a 4th job to his resume’….but at least this job allowed us to work together and see one another. Prior to that our hours were complete opposite one another. Still…..you do what you have to do!

All along we couldn’t believe that this is what our life had come to! Luckily we believed this was only temporary and kept our options open that would somehow allow us to get back into the industry that we both loved and had experienced success in.

Flash forward 3 years and with both excitement and some nervousness, we got reengaged in network marketing. The company I had been with since 2006 had a new division, things had changed for the better and the CEO spoke to us about us re-engaging. One thing that caught our attention is a colleague with that company was now earning MORE in one week than her monthly checks had been. THAT caught our attention.

Even though we didn’t have the extra money to buy the necessary larger pack to be ‘grandfathered in’ at a higher pay level we made the decision to buy it and to not pay our Comcast Internet service and our Verizon cell phone service. If we were going to get back into network marketing, we needed every advantage and to make money fast!

We were already two months behind on all our bills and those services were our life line to other possibilities… but we did it anyway! Now we needed (not just wanted) to make this work! Luckily when you are entrepreneurial and have had success before, with the right opportunity and excitement, we knew we could do it again. It was our ticket to freedom!

Our first month back in network marketing we earned $2,851. YES! Within 3 months we were earning $5K a month and within 6 months we were earning $10K a month and growing!

When people tell us we don’t understand when money is tight we actually DO understand….first hand! But that’s not the reason you can’t do it, it’s the reason you HAVE to.

We love what network marketing has done for us and can offer the average person. The flexibility it offers us offers so many options in life. We can live where we want, we never miss a family celebration or birth of a grandchild. We travel often to warm and exotic destinations and we work with a fabulous team of people who are like us, looking to create a ‘better tomorrow’ and to impact people’s lives in a positive way. We’re able to contribute in ways we haven’t been able to for many years.

We’re proud to say we are top leaders with our network marketing company and adore this industry and all the ‘good’ that it represents. We made the decision to be the up line sponsors that we never had and true to our word, we believe we are. We have created an environment and culture on our team that is unstoppable and know someday we’ll be one of the Tavala Elite Circle.

The picture to the left was taken during a company cruise that we qualified for once we first joined. We celebrated with a good size team but know that this year our team will be massive and new and stronger relationships will be created. What fun to celebrate and introduce our friend Gary Sweeting!

In His Own Words:

“My name is Gary T. Sweeting Jr. and I live in Nassau, Bahamas. I’ve been in the Network Marketing industry since end of 1999. I’ve been with multiple network marketing companies over these years, sometimes more than one at a time!.

I’ve made some money throughout these years and it’s always been “the dream of retirement” that keeps me engaged….even my father always says “here you go again pushing so hard” and calling me a “DREAMER “. Perhaps I am! He doesn’t understand why I work so hard at it- but here is my thought….” if I would put in 10 to 12 hrs a day working for someone else, why not put in time building MY dreams and achieving my goals for a better future for me and my family?

I was always heard to pay yourself first! I was told one of my dreams is to block ‘Palmdale area’ one day when I retire because of the the limos and friends will come to get me and take me away! I hold that vision.

There are many reasons I love this industry- I enjoy helping people (sometimes to a fault giving products away to people who are not able to pay but desperately needed it) but it fuels my heart!! Helping people to achieve their goals is my true passion… money is not always a priority to me.

I joined TAVALA on October 7 2017 with several goals in mind. One to be very successful in network marketing and help my team achieve success, but also to lose weight and make my health a priority.

I tried Tavala TRIM, Tavala’s flagship product, first time on October 7, 2017. My weight was 403 pounds and by November I was down 32 lbs. By the end of November I was down 55 lbs. and by December 6, 2017 was 339 lbs. THAT’S 64 lbs gone in ONLY 2 MONTHS!

Now here in the BAHAMAS most scales don’t go past 350 lbs. so I would go to a local fish house to get weighed…Thanks to “Paradise Fishery Nassau, Bahamas”.

The Tavala Trim made weight loss easy as it gave me energy and focus, helped suppress my appetite and cravings & boosted my metabolism. Along with taking the TRIM I committed to a local boot camp program which helped me with my exercise.

By February 27, 2018 I had dropped 100 lbs. which is half of what I plan to lose with Tavala. This made me the third person with Tavala to reach a 100 lbs. weight loss.

The video below shows my progress! I am thankful daily that I joined Tavala and that the company does what it says it is going to do- including having a warehouse here in Nassau, Bahamas. I continue to be grateful for never giving up in network marketing and am confident I’ll reach my financial goals with Tavala. I’m off to a good start!

In her Own Words!

“I have been a caregiver for 15 years caring for kids . I have worked for several day cares (in the Bahamas) and unfortunately in November, 2013 the last daycare I worked for close it’s doors due to the decline in business activity. This left myself and 4 other persons jobless. It was a hard pill to swallow for me and my husband, we also had our 1 year old son to care for . As a result all of the bills we had fell on me husband Travis.

So I became a stay at home mom and started to home-school our son until he was about 3 years old. And at that time I knew that my son needed to work on his socialization skills so we send him to school to be around other kids his age . In that space of time I had a lot of people approaching me and asking me to care for their babies at my house. So in March, 2015 I started to do a little daycare at home – which was a good thing because it brought in some cash to help pay off some of our bills.

In October 2017 I was introduced to a company called Tavala by Natasha Russell while I was at her salon. While I was sitting down waiting for my nail tech to finish up a client so I can get my nails refill she came up to me and began to tell me about Tavala and products. I remember I just sat there with all my walls up saying to myself you are not going to get me to sign up for this! (famous last words!).

My initial thought was “I will not allow you all to scam me” but I listened to everything she had to say but honestly it all went in one ear and out the other ear! Then my intuition kicked in! That little voice said to me “How do you know that it’s a scam? How do you know that they will not pay you? How will you know if you don’t try it for yourself?” So I told her sign me up. I signed up knowing that I have never done anything like this before- in fact I didn’t know what the first thing that I should do let alone if the products work or anything. Luckily Natasha is a well-seasoned networker and has been a great support as I am learning. One thing I love with Tavala is you can still EARN WHILE YOU LEARN!

In the middle of October I began to take the products and as soon as I started taking the product everything that she told me the product would do it did… I saw the weight loss and the energy boost almost immediately. Also I started to cut back on the amount of food I would eat throughout the day. The TRIM definitely helps suppress the appetite and cravings! Once I had my personal experience it was right then I knew that I needed to work the business.

I’ve never done network marketing before- Tavala is a first for me and from what people have shared with me, I feel fortunate to be part of such a great company and team -especially as someone new to the industry.
